a history of my sideways world. |
AV Club is doing a neat series of bands playing a set of 25 covers. They’ve chosen 25 songs and will get bands to come and choose from one of 25 songs. Every time a song is played it leaves the list. So Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are up first and chose “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. The next band will have 24 songs to choose from.
Here’s the list:
Archer’s of Loaf “Web in Front”
Depeche Mode “Enjoy the Silence”
Starship “We Built This City”
Pavement “Cut Your Hair”
MIA “Paper Planes”
The Kinks “Strangers”
Rolling Stones “19th Nervous Breakdown”
Pink Floyd “Wish You Were Here”
The Smiths “A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours”
The Wedding Present “My Favourite Dress”
Neutral Milk Hotel “Two-Headed Boy”
Billy Squier “Everybody Wants You”
Journey “Faithfully”
Superchunk “Detroit Has a Skyline”
The Replacements “I Will Dare”
Lemonheads “Confetti”
Nirvana “Sliver”
Bruce Springsteen “Atlantic City”
The Beach Boys “Kokomo”
It’s an interesting set, to say the least. I know about half of them so I certainly hope bands are showing up knowing more than I do (I guess this includes knowing how to play an instrument…which I do not know how to do).
